Every once in a while I read a post that is nothing more than a google search url with the thread title entered as the query. That bothers me.

I know that there are several very experienced posters on these forums who are understandably irked when inane questions pop up. It is tempting to admonish the askers, or patronise their lack of resourcefulness. However, doing so demonstrates an attitude of, at best, carelessness regarding the thought behind the question being asked....

Posted 06-20-2010 at 06:06 PM by gnyrfta

Ok, this is my real second blog entry.

I wrote a simple program where I enter my ingredients at home, and the program checks recipes to see how many ingredients are missing to make the different recipes.
I had a long busride with the vegetarian cookbook my sister gave me, and I was thinking how most of it looked good but Im always missing some ingredient or other...

Anyhows, the program works fine - I wrote it in Octave, which is what we learnt at school and...

from 32-bit OS to 64-bit OS

Posted 06-19-2010 at 08:57 AM by ionraedt

I am working with Ubuntu for quite a while (now 10.4 / 32bit).
As I have a 64-bit processor, I'd like to try a 64 OS.

You find enough meanings on the net about "why" and "why not" to change over to an 64-bit OS.
However, you don't find a lot about HOW to do it preserving as much as applications, settings and data from the old 32-bit system.
In short, what is the best way to upgrade your OS to 64-bit ??

Any comments are welcome...
