The attachment is my personal blow-by-blow log of installing mrxvt 0.5.4 on Slackware 13.0 with Xfce 4.4. It includes some useful links and details of configuring:
  • Xfce panel launcher.
  • Xfce menu entry.
  • Initial window size.
  • Foreground and background colours.
  • Profiles.
  • Fonts.
  • End and Home keys.
  • Menus (very basic and sub-menus not working).
  • Copy and paste to clipboard by Shift+Ctrl+C and Shift+Ctrl+V.

When should one pay for free software?

Posted 09-28-2009 at 03:10 PM by Lufbery (The Slacker's Blog)

I've been using Slackware Linux since version 11 came out. So, that would be since late 2006. Prior to that, I used a free CD of Ubuntu -- and I just remembered, before that I used a free Knoppix live CD.

So for nearly three years, I've been using Linux (now pretty much full-time at home) and I haven't paid for anything. I figured that this time, I would pay for my upgrade to Slackware 13 -- except that money is very tight right now and the cost of the DVD is somewhat prohibitive....

Installing Slackware 12.2 On An Old Dell Laptop - Part V

Posted 09-28-2009 at 02:54 PM by stuartd

It's been some time since I did any work on that old laptop. I've been away on holiday and then very busy.
So this evening I tried to get my head back into configuring eth0.
I've come up with a couple of ideas and tried them to no avail. Here goes -

I read here about pcmcia configuration:

and after some more reading around created /etc/modprobe.d/xircom.conf as follows:

alias eth0

Posted 09-28-2009 at 07:12 AM by elonge

hello to all
i'm trying to configure my dns and i'm having some difficulties in resolving this issue of SOA record not on top of zone.i know it might be a very boring question.i'm just a newbies in this.

This is how my /etc/named.conf file looks like

// named.conf
// Provided by Red Hat bind package to configure the ISC BIND named(8) DNS
// server as a caching only nameserver (as a localhost DNS resolver only).

mrxvt: how to configure clipboard copy and paste

Posted 09-27-2009 at 03:33 PM by catkin

Clipboard paste by Ctrl+Shift+V
Add this line to ~/.mrxvt
Mrxvt.macro.Ctrl+Shift+V: Paste CLIPBOARD
Clipboard copy by Ctrl+Shift+C
  1. Install xclip.
  2. Add this line to ~/.mrxvt
    Mrxvt.macro.Ctrl+Shift+C: Exec !/usr/bin/xclip -o | /usr/bin/xclip -selection clipboard

  • Tested on Slackware 13.0 with mrxvt 0.5.4 and xclip 0.12.
  • Ctrl+Shift+V is configured by default to "Paste X selection into active tab" but there is no loss of functionality;
