"Trigger" event button through serial rs-232 port

Serial ports seems to be part of the past, but surely is one of the most straight ways to communicate a linux box with the external world.
Recently I need to use a single button which a user could push and trigger some event, in my case a bash script to scan a document.
I wanted to do a "headeless" print and scan box (of course running Linux), where a user could just print documents (through samba+cups) and scan documents, then the scanned documents are available to local...

Open door to android.

My brother bought a B&N Nook and did the 2.x android thing to it. He really loves it. He stated that it had about 7 hours usage available per charge. Wifi works with his android version. He also swapped out some of the apps such as the browser to get better utility from them. More incentive to set up a android development environment. He can test apps without me having to purchase a device with android on it.

Sometimes I unplug my regular network from provider box so I can do...

These are the settings I use on Google Chrome, however you may go more stricter or looser with your security settings depending on your needs. I tend to disable any passwords saved, suggestions for searches, etc. Also, you can remove a lot of junk by using a hosts file (see the Hosts File Hack) which will disable banners, ads, etc.

Su/Sudo Hardening Tutorial

In a default Slackware 13.1 installation, you create a root user with a root password. Normally, I create a regular user who is a member of the following groups: audio, cdrom, floppy, netdev, plugdev, power, users, video and wheel. The thought being that only members of the "wheel" group should be allowed to su (switch user) to root to do administrative work. Here's how it works:
