During the deployment of our latest software revision (a major version bump that migrated all of our databases from MSSQL to Linux/PostgreSQL and migrated all of our web servers from Apache/PHP to Tomcat/GWT), we started hitting snags in IT operations immediately with database backups. When this major version revision came out, it allowed customers to store documents, photos, etc...directly in the database (something MSSQL 2005 isn't capable of). Ubuntu software packaging system can accumulate unused packages or temporary files. These temporary files, also called caches, contain package files from all of the packages that you have ever installed. Eventually, this cache can grow quite large. Removing them allows you to reclaim space on your computer's hard drive for storing your documents, music, photographs, or other files.

To clear the cache you can use either the clean or the autoclean op for a command-line program called...

compiling greatest ffmpeg & using it

First install yasm-1.0.1.tar.gz in usual way.

For libx264 support
Get latest
Code:
git clone git://git.videolan.org/x264.git
You get x264 folder . You can compress & save that folder for backup .
Installing involves
Code:
cd x264;./configure;make;sudo make install;sudo ldconfig
extract ffmpeg & then run
Code:
 cd ffmpeg ;./configure  --enable-avfilter  --enable-avfilter-lavf --enable-vdpau --enable-bzlib
