The first step is to set up some persistence. I choose a 16Gb USB stick. I figured, since it's an experiment, and since harddisks are somewhat in short supply...why not.

First step: boot with the CD .. and the USB stick plugged in.
Second step: recon:

fdisk -l
came up with sda as drive...the USB stick, as the harddrive is unplugged.
Third step: lay out the drive

Quote:
fdisk /dev/sda
and calculate the partitions:...

Just for fun

...sunday is one of those days where time (at least for me) ticks too slow.
So, why not try something ultra-zany: build a Linux from the ground up.

Following the "road sign" laid out by Linux from Scratch, I used a footprint to get started, and choose TTYLinux.

In this blog, I'd like to give a step-bystep account of my endeavours, hoping to retain some things in the "stream". Any and all comments are welcome...of course.

Tags hdd, install, mepis, mint

New PC:-
Blank HDD - the shop actually used FreeDos to test the HDD
& gave a leaflet on how to Erase that & install W7.

But- that didn't happen

so into the DvD drive went a Puppy4 cd & thus create four new partitions & erase the FreeDos

and then:- the Mepis11 onto sda3 & /home on sda6
followed by Mint10 onto sda1 & /home onto sda6
with sda4 in reserve, for future use.

works well ...
