recompiling the installed kernal

i am working on rhel-5,and i want to recompile my Linux kernel so that once i installed all the pacakages like vlcplayer,openoffice,typing toutorials,nic driver,firewall rule through iptables.i can compile a new kernel putting all this appplication togethe,and i can burn the image of new compiled kernel tro install next time if i am installing a fresh rhel-5 OS,so that every time i need not search and install all the above packages.

I know it's been forever since I've posted here, but I figure this is something I really need to get off my chest:

It's an English word.
You type it by striking three keys once and one key twice.
As an adjective, it's harmless. As a noun, it has rather…odd connotations amongst the majority. O_o
There are entire websites dedicated to the "fad"/"meme"/"subculture"/"whatever-you-want-to-call-it".*
It has moderately to do with this post.

Audacity recording problem on Ubuntu 11.10, Audigy 2 ZS

When trying to record a second track, Audacity would keep stopping the recording, either instantly or after a few seconds. Very annoying, and the forum threads I found were particularly unhelpful. It turned out the problem was with overdub and pulseaudio.

The solution was to change the PLAYBACK device from 'default' to 'SB Audigy [SB0350]: p16v (hw:1,4)', as well as the recording device to Audigy as well. It initially didn't pick up the microphone, but this can be solved with alsamixer...
