I moved recently to the Seattle area for a job with Amazon.
I'd had Time Warner Cable in San Antonio, which was woefully under-saavy for some of the stuff I was wanting to do (mostly revolving around IPv6), so I was excited to see what opportunities there were with new ISPs in Seattle. My wife didn't want to live *in* Seattle, so we got a nice rental setup out near Renton, a little ways south of Seattle.
One of our next door neighbors is a Comcast employee, as evidenced...
Why replace version 140326 with version 140411?
To my horror I discovered that some programs (including K3b and MPlayer) could not be started due to various unfulfilled program dependencies. The problems are now fixed in version 140411. Additionally could version 4.8.6 of Gimp not open jpg files. To deal with the problem, I had to install version 4.8.10 (latest stable version) of Gimp from source.
As I still had to fix various software problems I took the opportunity to replace...
NEWS 140410 re. Exton|Defender based on Slackware 14.1
I’ve made a new version of Exton|Defender 64 bit based on Slackware 14.1. It uses Xfce 4.10 and kernel 3.14-x8_64-exton. Kernel 3.14 is the latest stable kernel available from Kernel.org. Released (20140331).
I have compiled a very useful (as I think) 64 bit kernel for Slackware 12.0 – 14.1 and/or all Slackware derivatives. For example Slax, Zenwalk, SlackEX and Exton|Defender. The kernel is compiled exactly the same way as Slackware’s latest kernel huge. “My” kernel 3.14-x86_64-exton has even more support for new hardware, etc. Kernel 3.14 is the latest stable kernel available from Kernel.org. Released (20140331).

A short story of (En)Lightening KDE SC 4 Desktop
This is my personal experience with KDE SC 4 (specifically 4.12) on Arch Linux.
I have been using KDE SC 4 for few days and on startup, my RAM usage were ~600 MB (Nepomuk disabled, but akonadi server running). Then one day there was thunderstorm outside, there began raining, and suddenly with a flash of lightening a change came into my mind. I opened KDE SystemSettings, then go to Default Applications-> Window Manager and...
