How To Get Sony Vaio Backlight Working Under Linux

Posted 07-14-2016 at 10:09 PM by Ztcoracat

Got a Sony Vaio with backlight capabilities?

If you answered yes to that question and it's not working I found a workaround.

Open the terminal as root and create this file in Nano or any other text editor.
Code:
/etc/modeprobe.d/sony-laptop.conf
Before you close that file put this argument in it:
Code:
options sony laptop kbd_backlight=2
Than save the file.

(2 is 60 seconds and 3 is unlimited) I recommend setting...

SlackEX (Slackware 14.2/Current) live USB with kernel 4.6.4 and KDE 4.14.21

Posted 07-14-2016 at 03:47 PM by exton (Exton's Blog)
Updated 07-14-2016 at 03:48 PM by exton (More INFO)

I have made yet another version of SlackEX. It has the latest kernel (4.6.4, released 160711) and the latest KDE (4.14.21) Desktop Environment.

New features in version 160714 of SlackEX
I have replaced kernel 4.5.1-x86_64-exton with kernel 4.6.4-x86_64-exton with support for “everything”. Most important is that I have changed repositories from Slackware 14.1 to Current. I.e. Slackware 14.2 (released 160701). KDE is upgraded to version 4.14.21 (latest KDE version). All other...

Run your Slackware installation with the latest stable kernel – 4.6.4!

Posted 07-12-2016 at 11:01 AM by exton (Exton's Blog)

I have compiled a very useful (as I think) 64 bit kernel for Slackware Current (14.2) and/or all Slackware derivatives. For example Slax, Zenwalk and SlackEX. The kernel is compiled exactly the same way as Slackware’s latest kernel huge. “My” kernel 4.6.4-x86_64-exton has even more support for new hardware, etc. Kernel 4.6.4 is the latest stable kernel available from Kernel.org. Released yesterday (20160711).

What’s new in kernel 4.6.4?

Posted 07-08-2016 at 09:52 PM by zaivala

That EeePC 1015PEM was just too laggy no matter what I put on it. I bought a friend a Lenovo X130e and it proved to be too small for her (vision issues), so I bought her a Dell Mobile Workstation 6300 and took the Lenovo in payment (she paid for it). I then put LinuxMint 18 Sarah MATE 64-bit on it, and it runs great.

I also have to move again. And, for the third time, I'm moving to Blaine, TN. Just sucks me back in. But the place I'm moving to isn't ready yet, requiring some patience...
