With a little web research squared away my issues with arch arm/x86 and the web servers. The answer was there all along, but it took some experience with arch to realize what was done.

Put old machines back to work as starter systems.
Yes Virginia, Slackware does run on a Pentium I with 256 meg ram.

I have compiled yet another Ubuntu/Debian kernel for 64 bit systems. This time kernel 3.18.0-7-exton, equivalent to’s stable kernel 3.18, released 141207.

Time (actually I did that early 2014) to update CyanogenMod on my my Samsung Galaxy GT I9000 (the first install I did here:

Hint for later use: adb - Use phone-terminal on your computer.

Now let's start. This is the official installation guide:

Gnome 3 and Debian Jessie

My setup/configuration changes and wishlist for Gnome 3 in Debian (Jessie comes with Gnome 3.14):

  • gnome-shell-extensions (although Gnome recommends to only install extensions from, but no packaged extensions.)
  • gnome-system-tools (many things, e.g. GUI for user and groups management. IMO this package should be suggested or recommended by some other gnome package more prominently (currently only gnome-nettool suggests it and lxde (!) recommends
