Wishing I Didn't Have to Troubleshoot as Much - Yet

Posted 08-28-2017 at 01:12 AM by des_a

I am wishing that I didn't have so much problems to just start to get the network up and running for the first version of it (version a). It seems that every time I turn around, I'm having another problem preventing me from moving forward for the time being. I would rather have that go smoothly, and then learn to troubleshoot with a working network that had already reached version a.

New ##slackware-help community support channel on Freenode

Posted 08-23-2017 at 05:58 PM by ttk (Unpopular Positions: One Geek's Take)

A new channel for providing Slackware community support has been created on Freenode.

It is similar to the previous existing ##slackware channel, in both charter and composition (a lot of the users in ##slackware-help are also in ##slackware).

The differences are mostly of tone and technology -- the new channel has a factoid-bot for easily pointing newbies to existing resources. For instance:

Posted 08-23-2017 at 11:03 AM by Habitual (Spock's Brain)
Updated 08-23-2017 at 11:35 AM by Habitual

Target for this example is apache2, or "what were the defaults?"

mkdir -pv /path/to/temp/
dpkg-deb -x /var/cache/apt/archives/apache2_2.4.18-2ubuntu3.4_amd64.deb /path/to/temp/
Below /path/to/temp/ is
remove all but etc, so
rm -fr /path/to/temp/{lib,usr,var}
and there they are!
