The Reality About Switching to Linux

Alan Pope made an interesting article about his experience in using Linux, particularly Ubuntu. Being a MEPIS Linux user, I found his article applicable to the Linux community in general. With all permissions granted from Alan, I have re-written the article to make it a general Linux experience. What's your experience? Read full article here..

Well, it was a short but steamy affair. Beryl was very sexy, but she had some... problems. For one thing, she didn't like my gaming addiction. "Guild Wars under Cedega? No way, buddy."

Sorry Beryl, but nobody comes between me and my MMORPG. It's back to KDE for me. Give me a call when you're more mature.

It's absolutely critical that you get the right firmware for your driver . . .

For Mandriva 2007 that would be the 3.0 version of the firmware.

You then have to create a soft link to "/lib/firmware" (which is where your firmware should be); As Root, issue this command in the terminal ln -s /lib/firmware /etc/firmware Next, open "Configure Your Computer", go to "Set up a new network interface" and you should

problem with running linux

Hi everybody
I try to boot my system by linux but unfortunately i got message that:
bash: fstab cant open,input/output incorrect
and also i have message that system has problem with superblock and i have to use the command
e2fsck.ext2 -b 8193 (device).
Could anybody to help me.

One of the cool things about Mepis 6.5 beta 5 is that it's Beryl-ready (almost) out of the box. For myself, with an Nvidia graphics card, I had to make one small modification (change Mepis default "nv" driver in xorg.conf to "nvidia" driver) to get Beryl to run without crashing. I'm still learning the ropes of Beryl, and I can't say that it's terribly intuitive or user friendly to set up, but the eye candy is phenomenal. And it's not just eye candy, either... having a mini screen...
