And here we go again with another opinion piece and long awaited 3rd installment in this acclaimed series... As with the award winning "decline and fall of the linux forum" and it's sequel, this is merely a platform for some theorising and surmising and exploring just what drives people to participate in such mediums. The fact remains however that we can surmise and theorise all we like and it won't change a damned thing.

Meaning that a script line such as:

nowstatus=`mpc | grep '#' | cut -d '/' -f1`

Is running mpc, grep and cut at its very statement, not only from an eventual "echo $nowstatus".

Therefore, in scripts that parse differently the same output of a given command, it may be preferable to first store this output in a temporary file, and then parse this file rather than running the same command several times. Such as in the lines added below their equivalent...

Updated 08-11-2016 at 04:59 AM by exton (More INFO)

ExLight Linux Live DVD has been downloaded about 2000 times per week the last two months. I have therefore made a new upgraded version of ExLight today (160810). I have also created a new special WordPress site for ExLight.

All these machines were purchased through eBay, and the unused two are now for sale there. Nobody wants to buy them BECAUSE of Linux -- if they had Windoze on them, they'd be sold already.

I do love the T430. I'm getting moved into my new home. An old online girlfriend has decided to get serious, but we have a border in the...

NEWS 160817
Kernel 4.7.1-x86_64-exton is my newest Slackware kernel. Kernel 4.7.1 was released yesterday (160816).

I have compiled a very useful (as I think) 64 bit kernel for Slackware Current (14.2) and/or all Slackware derivatives. For example Slax, Zenwalk and SlackEX. The kernel is compiled exactly the same way as Slackware’s latest kernel huge. “My” kernel 4.7.1-x86_64-exton has even more support for new hardware, etc. Kernel 4.7 is the latest kernel available from
