Distros

Posted 11-25-2008 at 08:09 PM by kezdeth

So I guess I've tried most of the major distros out there, and I can't really say that I have a favorite. But I can say that I love linux over everything else out there.

What *did* surprise me was, I ordered a new XPS M1530 laptop from Dell, with Ubuntu pre-installed, and what do you know? They got it right! Fantastic machine, killer OS, other than Dell's idea of customer service (no such thing available), nothing but a very positive experience.

Posted 11-25-2008 at 07:27 PM by gumaflots

Hi to every one.

I have been using Linux/BSD mostly Linux for about 4 years.

Best thing it is not windows!!! worst there are so many Good Distros.

I am using Zenwalk now and so far so good, I like being able to add bits and pieces from KDE, Gnome...

question: where is a good explation of installing from source on Slackware or Zenwalk.

Thanks

A new Slackware users first impressions

Posted 11-25-2008 at 10:08 AM by linuxpokernut

I recently installed Slackware 12.1 on my machine and I would like to share my first impressions. Ill have to share my past experience with *nix a bit here.

Unix/Unix shell at work in a factory.
Fedora 4, 5, 7, 8
Ubuntu/Kubuntu 7.04 and on
Slax 4+ (popcorn is my favorite poket OS.), knoppix 4+, Live Ubuntu, Gentoo live.

The first task was making my machine dual bootable. I wanted to keep Slackware "invisible" to my wife. She supports me...
