CD ripper

I have been trying out a few CD rippers. One or two ripped the songs as "ogg" which is fine for playing them on the computer, but I wanted the songs as mp3 for my player. I know this isn't a problem because I now have programs to convert audio to nearly anything. As for time, it's a lot better if I can just rip straight to mp3. So! after trying a few I ended up with "Ripper X". You can't get much easier than this program. So mission accomplished, my "Joy Division" CD's...

My dual boot setup.

I was reading a blog earlier this week about not paying MS tax or propping up market share claims by trying to avoid buying hardware with Windows pre-installed. This got me thinking about my dual boot desktop, which hardly ever gets booted into Vista. I've used it occasionally to do a bit of 'testing' but apart from that, there are people in my household who have never used it. Still not sure after all this time...

I'm perhaps less of a linux newbie now, I've tried a whole lot of different distros and I'm feeling rather stupid as I found out the p.c. I'm using has hardware issues owing to the thunderstorm and concomitant lightning strike which stopped it running on Windows in the first place. Still, so far its survived 18 months since that time and I'm not complaining.

My beloved Fedora core 8 was the last but one distro I loaded (if the red hat fits...) and it worked fine until I upgraded it...

I'm not very good with video

It's true Im' afraid! I find video and audio formats confusing? Then you've got all these codecs to install to "Transcode". Why can't things be made simpler to understand? or is it just my brain starting to go soft, early.

I recorded part of a program last night using my Geniatech dvb stick through Kaffeine! The quality was very good, the sound seemed to be down but that could just be the signal strength I suppose. I closed Kaffeine and navigated to the file I had just made....
