With a little web research squared away my issues with arch arm/x86 and the web servers. The answer was there all along, but it took some experience with arch to realize what was done.

Put old machines back to work as starter systems.
Yes Virginia, Slackware does run on a Pentium I with 256 meg ram.

# uname -a

So happy happy, My pogoplug arch linux box seems to have had a miraculous fix. It came up and of course I am running pacman (package manager).

dbase menus to bash.

Wondered if there could be a way to mimic the old dbase menus from Freddies Fish market in bash . This what I came up with:

Dbase:
mainmenu.prg

Pictures to html

Generate a web page three pics wide from a directory of pictures.

#!/bin/bash
# daffinitions
ls *.png > picdatafile
#ls *.jpg >> picdatafile

File listing to html

Downlloaded some pdf files, but wanted to access them from the local server. Did not want to edit several hundred lines into an html file so I create a batch file. Then the job was done in seconds rather than hours. Learned a bit more about sed in the process.

# turn a pdf list into a usable http file for a web server.
ls *.pdf > pdflist
cut -d "." -f1 pdflist > descripts
sed -i -e 's/^/<a href=\"/' pdflist
sed -i 's/$/\"\>/'...
