With buffers, vim makes it easy to switch between multiple files.

Code:
:e filename - open a file in a new buffer

:ls - list buffers

:b 1 - switch to the first buffer

:b name - switch to a buffer whose name begins with /name/

:b# - switch to the previously edited buffer

:bd - delete a buffer (close file)

:sp filename - Open a file in a new buffer and split window

ctrl+ww - switch between windows
ctrl+wq - quit a window

ctrl+L, ctrl+G - redraw screen, show filename and position
