Build Notes for LFS 6.6 with Package Users
by Drew Ames
with contributions from Bryan Kadzban and
on the LFS-Dev mailing list and 'crts' on LQ.net.
October 2010

Quick note: Early in 2011, I completed LFS 6.7 with these same instructions and did not encounter any changes of note.

I. Introduction
I recently completed Linux From Scratch 6.6 (with Slackware 13.1 as the host) using the package users scheme for package management as described...

A slacker builds Linux From Scratch!

Posted 10-12-2010 at 09:29 AM by Lufbery (The Slacker's Blog)

Once again I'm writing about another "distribution" purely from a Slackware user's perspective. But this is a little different. I put distribution in quotes because Linux from Scratch (LFS) is a distribution in the same way that corn meal, flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and an egg is corn bread -- you have to make it yourself following a recipe. Everything is built from source.

I successfully built an LFS system, and surprisingly learned a lot about Slackware at the...

I've been working with QEMU-KVM for the past couple of months. I've found that it is exceptionally useful to have virtual machines -- sandboxes -- where I can experiment with stuff without affecting my configuration or installation. In other words, if I really mess up, only the virtual machine gets hurt.

My primary purpose right now for QEMU-KVM is building Linux From Scratch using Slackware 13.1 as the host in the virtual machine. I created a 60 GB blank disk image, installed Slackware...

My desktop computer doesn't need a lot of configuration, but my old IBM A22m Thinkpad does. Over the years I've found a few links to good information on setting up the laptop to do exactly what I want.

The first thing I need to do after installing a new version of Slackware is get my wireless card working. Here's how I do it:

First I download and install the Madwifi driver (from Alien Bob's site) to drive my D-Link wireless card with an Atheros chipset.

Playing with VMs . . . and liking it!

It is said that necessity is the mother of invention, but I say that deadlines are the impetus for experimentation.

I was working on an article about src2pkg and focusing on creating packages in different formats (DEB and RPM, primarily). Naturally I needed to test whether or not the packages would work in other distributions. The last thing I wanted to do was mess with my actual partitions (except to clean up prior to an upgrade), so I decided to try QEMU.
