Linux is good for Academic Student

Posted 09-04-2009 at 04:57 AM by kamaleshsah07

Linux is good for student because of it very original concept of "Open Source". It provide us a platform where student can explore different concept of Operating System and How it works. What coding behind developing Linux OS, that thing we not able to explore in Windows OS.

When i was doing my B.Tech I find very tough to grab concept of Server and Client Architecture. Like I have to remember what is DHCP, DNS, FTP server to get good marks in exam. But in Final year of my B.Tech I have undergone through certification program. And fortunately I got first assignment in my work to train 2nd year student of Engineering college on "Linux Administration and Server Configurations". In that period i have explore Linux in great amount and train student on all the Server Configurations(DHCP, DNS, FTP, NFS, SAMBA, Web Server, Virtual Host Server, Syslog Server and X windows Server)

When student have knowledge on Server Configurations then it is by default they obtain knowledge on Basic Networking (IP Address, Subnet, Netmask, Classless and Classfull address and many more thing)

And most important when student are doing system administrative task they have to use Shell Programming and Linux Command for its job.

So if Student learn Linux on first year then he can gain knowledge not only about OS, But also on Server, Networking, Programming, Command and most important concept of "Open Source and Free Software ". After that whatever concept which is described in Book becomes very easy because we can visuals all concept in front of our eye.

I want to complete this article by saying that what I have learned in 4th Year of My B.Tech Study if Linux is become compulsory for student on first year it benefit Student for their future.

Thanks
