Ubuntu GNOME vs KDE

If on the same computer, would Ubuntu 7.10 (GNOME) install and configure better than Kubuntu 7.10? This question was raised recently by my brother by claiming the GNOME desktop was better than KDE. I assumed because both are from the same base OS, both would install the same with the only difference being the chosen desktop environment (GENOME vs KDE). Both would configure correctly for the same computer, network connection, video driver, printer, etc. Does anyone have knowledge about this question?...

recovery with sBackup

I have been using sBackup on Kubuntu 7.04 (placing the data on a local NAS drive) for a while. I have even been able to recover data using the recovery tool. Then my system crashed and I had to reinstall the OS. Now when I go to recover my data using sBackup, it errors out and will not allow me to see/access my data. Have I screwed up when I reistalled the OS? Is there still a way to acess my data within the compressed files?
