Yea, most of it's great but there's also a lot of work that goes into making it great. I examine all the good bad and ugly of technology.

Google docs, love them or only kinda like them

Posted 09-25-2009 at 04:59 AM by jaymarting

I remember the days when free online email was a novelty. The storage space was small and the features even smaller. But the I discovered that the benefits of gettin my email on any computer outweighted the costs of fewer features. And remember these were the days when Eudora ruled the consumer desktop email market.

But soon the features caught up and now in the last 5 years not only can I get my email on any computer or laptop out there I can also get it on my iPhone or blackberry. Also, gone are the days of worrying about transferring over all my messages to a new computer when I got one. Everything is backed up for me... And for free!!

So now comes google docs. And I feel a little like it's 2000 all over again. Sure ms office has more features but how insane is it that I have to VPN into my company's network just to get my word docs? And how crazy is it that I have to worry about my computer crashing and me losing all my spreadsheets? Google docs backs up everything for me and makes it accessable from anywhere in the world.

It's a change in thinking for sure but one I think we'll all be looking back on with amazement that we didn't imbrace it more quickly. Well more quickly than 2009 because I just did. Free word processing. I like where we're headed.

Time to get back on this blog thing. I've got lots to say.

Love them! But they need to work on some higher end graphs and such for their spreadsheets. I too like how you can access your files anywhere. Only thing that worries me is the 'cloud' concept. But then again I don't have anything too important or secretive that I'm doing.
