How To Send & Receive Files on Blackberry [BB<->Phone; BB<->PC]
Hi,
I know you might wonder why I'm posting this here. But I have been trying to do this for some hours and finally got it. But before then, I searched the web and could not find an easier way to send all kinds of files (texts, media, even unknown files). I'm running Ubuntu 11.04, using Blueman 1.21-4 bluetooth manager and I did this with a BB Curve 8520 (but this method will surely work for any bluetooth software, device, phone or PC).
In Linux, after setting up & pairing your phone with your computer, you should first try and send a file (any file) from PC to phone to see if it will work. If it does, then you need not read further. But if it doesn't, then please read on (phone to PC seems to work without a hitch - well on my system). When I tried it, I got 'Unable to find Service Records' error. If you have similar problem, then relax and follow these steps;
BB Phone > PC:
1. Turn on your PC bluetooth or plug in your bluetooth dongle,
2. Turn on your phones bluetooth (Goto 'Options > Bluetooth'),
3. Connect/pair your PC and phone if you haven't done that already,
4. On your PC, click (or right-click) on your bluetooth icon and look for 'Receive Files', click on it (your PC MIGHT bring up a dialogue window showing that it is waiting/listening for a connection/file transfer),
5. On your phone, browse to the file you want to send, highlight/select it ( you can open it as well), press the 'Menu' button to bring up menu/options , then select 'Send Using Bluetooth',
6. Your PC MIGHT ask you for confirmation, click 'Accept' or 'Yes'; then watch & wait for it to complete the transfer.
7. Now, smile and enjoy

4. On your BB phone, go to your BB file browser 'Files' (look for it under 'Settings' or 'Applications' folder), open it and open 'File Folders',
5. Press the phone's 'Menu' button to bring up menu/options, you will see 'Receive Using Bluetooth', click it; your phone will bring up a dialogue window showing that it is waiting/listening for a file transfer connection,
6. On your PC, browse to the file you want to send, select it and click 'Open' or 'Send'; your PC will show the 'file transfer' dialogue,
(I am using 'Blueman' on Ubuntu 11.04; the 'Send File' button on 'Blueman' was initially grayed-out, so I could not click on it. This was because of the 'Unable to find Service Records' error -- the PC could not completely access the BB phone's Service Records to get the 'Data Transfer' or 'Data Push' record. So now, as the BB phone was waiting/listening for the file transfer connection, I selected the phone connection on my PC's Blueman, right-click on it (or from 'Device' option) and click on 'Refresh Services'. This will refresh and add the 'Data Transfer' or 'Data Push' record to your PC<->BB phone device properties (you can check 'Device Properties' on your BB phone), thereby activating/'un-gray' the 'Send File' button on Blueman -- the 'Send File' button is not grayed-out on 'Gnome-Bluetooth', so just send the files as the phone is waiting/listening for transfer connection),
7. Your BB phone MIGHT ask you for confirmation, click 'Accept' or 'Yes' and choose folder where to save the file; then watch & wait for it to complete the transfer,
8. Now, smile and enjoy
Hope this solves your 'Unable to find Service Records' problem under Linux or any other BB<->Phone file transfer via bluetooth.
Cheers.
