Well to be honest my introduction to Linux was sometime last year when a friend handed me a copy of Knoppix 5.1. And at that moment when the computer booted up to the desktop I was hooked. Then began the long journey of distro-hopping. I was not ready to stay with one distribution for some reason. What contribuited to distro-hopping was the fact that I did not know there was any operating system apart from Winduhs .
I have had some good experiences as well as bad ones.
Some of the best distributions I have seen this far are :
1. Debian - The god of operating systems. There is nothing that would even remotely touch it. It is something that is very close to my heart and it has always stayed on atleast one of my computers.
2. Vector - This distro deserves a mention simply because it is one cd yet contains almost everything that you would need for daily use. Incase there is some other application that you need you can always use ./confiure make make install. This is one distro that never let me down.
3. OpenSuse - A very good distro but needs good hardware. For some reasons I run away from distros that need a lot of hardware.
For some time I also had FreeBSD on my computer but then one power failure messed up the file system and it was a pain to rescue the data from my hard drive. I am not touching BSDs again until the filesystem becomes mature enough.
