I’ve made a new extra version of Exton|OS with only a minimum of packages pre-installed. Among them a terminal emulator (LXTerminal), a Web Browser (Chromium), PCManFM (file manager), NetworkManager and Synaptic (Package Manager). I give you the pleasure of installing all extra packages you need after a hard disk installation of Exton|OS Light. Use Synaptic for that. You can of course also install new packages while running the system live (from CD/USB stick), but nothing will be saved after a reboot....
I’ve made a new lighter version of ExTiX 14.1. It uses Razor-qt as Desktop Environment, Slim as Login Manager and kernel 3.15.0-0-exton. (Razor-qt is an advanced, easy-to-use, and fast desktop environment based on Qt technologies. It has been tailored for users who value simplicity, speed, and an intuitive interface).
The system is a remaster of Ubuntu 14.04 – codenamed Trusty Tahr, released April 17, 2014. The original system includes the Desktop Environment Unity (Ubuntu). I have added LXDE,Razor-qt and XBMC (An award-winning free and open source (GPL) software media player and entertainment hub for digital media) as alternatives, so that everyone on the spot (during live operation) can compare the different four Desktop Environments. The system language is ENGLISH.
The system is a based on Debian Jessie (upcoming Debian 8). There are also certain elements of Debian Sid (unstable). Xfce 4.10.1 is used as Desktop environment. It aims to be fast and low on system resources, while still being visually appealing and user friendly. (…and according to my experience it is much faster than LXDE in Debian). DebEX Barebone uses the original Debian kernel 3.14.1-amd64 (equivalent to Kernel.org’s latest stable kernel 3.14.2). The system language is English.
What is ArchEX dual?
ArchEX 64bit/32bit dual is a new (140507) Linux live DVD based on Arch Linux. Arch motto is KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid). ArchEX uses kernel 3.14.2-1-ARCH (latest stable kernel) and the LXDE Desktop environment.
BENEFITS of ArchEX/Arch Linux
“Cutting Edge”-software and speed.
