12 happy years of experience with DEBIAN starting from version 5 Sid until the recent 8.3 Jessie.
Before that done 6 years of system administration including a SCO UNIX Server and a couple of Windows Servers and dozens of workstations. The largest system was nearly 100 PC's, devices etc. at 3 locations with LAN and VPN's, Firewall and Phone via landline and VoIP.

I like to experiment and then share the experience. With sharing I may post silly stuff and get corrected - the way to learn something from anybody.

Have fun, insight and maybe share your knowledge with me.

SONY XPERIA X Compact - data transfer

Got a new phone and ran into the usual trouble of how to get my pics and stuff on the phone to my computer.

Tried a couple of manual hacks which can work but are awkward such as mounting the device. The security on the new Android 6 + 7 messes up quite a bit of stuff there and all I want to do is transfer files back and forth. Pics from the phone to the computer some music to the phone.

SOLUTION

KDE Connect works just great

LINUX
Debian Jessie oldstable 8.3

PHONE
Android 7

Installation:
PHONE:
APP Store KDE Connect

Computer:
apt-get install kdeconnect

Phone was connected via USB and APP opened after installation. Said no devices. 10 seconds after installing kdeconnect on my laptop phone is connected.

Can up and download.

Phone shows in Dolphin as SONY in "places".
