So I downloaded NetBSD 4 Live iso, and I have to say, I was truly amazed at the performance of the thing. I mean, whatever they've done, its quite commendable. For one, it has KDE, and not only did it start up quite nicely, it ran much faster than my Fedora 14 live CD with GNOME. I mean, its performance was simply incredible. Hats off to the NetBSD Live! CD team! Too bad that it can't be installed to the hard drive, though.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again - I simply don't like the direction in which modern Linux distros are going. Fedora 15 requires 768 MB RAM, minimum. I've got 256. Go figure.

Not to play the devil's advocate here, but what's stopping you from switching to a *BSD full time? (Note: I'm a card-carrying OpenBSD fanatic. Take what I saw concerning Linux vs. BSD with a grain of salt haha).Posted 07-06-2011 at 10:03 AM by rocket357

Just to point out, Fedora doesn't require that much RAM. Fedora with Gnome and a bunch of other stuff does. My Fedora 15 install uses 110MB of RAM on boot with XFCE. Go figure. Linux is all about bending your OS to your will. Make it whatever you want it to be.

No, yeah, but Anaconda doesn't allow an installation on less than 768 MB of RAM. I used to love GNOME, but 3 is just plain too much for my system to handle.
I'm a little concerned that my Creative Soundblaster Live! 5.1vx might not work on FreeBSD (it barely works on Linux). Apart from that, I'm very interested in *BSD.Posted 07-23-2011 at 10:40 AM by DJ Shaji
