I had a flicker problem (glx nvidia gentoo screen flicker xorg)

Nvidia drivers, open gl drivers, screen flickers in x occasionaly.

This is the fix:


1) vim /etc/modprobe.d/nvidia.conf

2) add ad the end
options nvidia NVreg_RegistryDwords="PerfLevelSrc=0x2222"

fbsplash on debian (sid)

Aloha to you all :)

I've spent some time trying to get fbsplash working on debian, and It didn't take long before I got really stuck.
I had no more ideas as to what to do so I tried a *wildcard* and contacted the author of the splashutils, Jean Damien, to whoom I owe big thanks for going into trouble and helping me out.

So here we go, first and hopefully last thing you'll need to do is to read, basically it...

So, you want something different and you want it fast.
Ok, no problem :)

1.) Change your default colors in bash or whatever shell you use:
(thanks to mailing lists for this tip :) )

dircolors -p > ls_colors.file
Edit the file and customize the colors.

Now edit your .bashrc:
Instead of this:

export LS_OPTIONS='--color=auto'
eval `dircolors`...

Java IDE - Debian way

as always I'll keep the things as short as possible.

If you are looking for a good Java IDE on Linux then, I think, the NetBeans is a good choice.
You can download it from the and be sure to download NetBeans IDE or even better
Java technology NetBeans IDE Bundles.

Ok so you downloaded the NetBeans and installed it, but you can't create new Java project? Ok, don't...

A long long time ago in a galaxy not so far away....

I installed Debian Sarge. I used KDE for some time quite happily and then it happened once, only once, everything froze on logout, X server didn't respond and resetting it only got me into more trouble... no I didn't know what caused the problem and I 'm not sure even now...

As time went by I got tired of Sarge and tried some apt pinning and getting new kde from Etch... great... it worked fine...for some time :) and...
