Dabbled in Android Development

Posted 03-31-2018 at 11:15 PM by des_a

I was dabbling in android development for awhile. I found the sketchware app for android, which has a free version out there. I learned how to "grab" the apk, and install it to an ftp server. I was needing to install flash player for android before, so I already had a place on my ftp server to store apks.

I extended this place so that I could store more apks. It worked nicely. What I was missing though, was a store of my own. You have to have lots of know how to access the ftp server and install apps.

So, to have a little less know-how, I created a store, like Google Play. Mine is not meant to replace Google Play, but mainly to store my own apps. Later the store, but nothing else, will probably be on Google Play. This makes my store unique, as the only easy place to get my apps, except for the store.

I had to create an app for the store too! So I created an app, which made use of webview. Version 1.1 works the way I desired. However, another reason I wanted to create my own store, was because of a limitation of Google Play.

In Google Play, you only can get the most recent version, with automatic updates if wanted. In my store, you don't have automatic updates or anything yet, but you DO have the ability to go back and use an old version. That way, you can use an older version, if you need to for compatibility reasons. The most recent, may be the recommendation, but really, it's your choice! I have about 4 apps in total, I believe. I think this is cool!

I have stored the store on the vweb server for now.

See http://smileynet001.ddns.net:81/~smileynet_guest, for the store.
