Sticky issues with tar...

Posted 09-05-2011 at 12:24 PM by ButterflyMelissa

Tar does not unpack...well, the TTYLinux tar does'nt. It seems that the Busybox tar cannot handle all the tars around.

Since I try to assemble something from the bottom up, most (all? dunnow yet) software comes from gnu's site, so, untarring is a must.

Workaround: install the GNU tar. To do that I need to start up with a Live CD that has a good/working tar, download and untar in folders, and re-boot with TTYLinux and compile the software.

To do that, I need to set up a non-root user and do a make in that space...if all dependencies work out...

That's for next time...

Are you doing an LFS, or just trying something different? Is it a new installation or distro?

    Hi,

This is something totally unscripted. I just want to see what makes Linux tick...
So far it's been very educational.
This is a "feel-your-way-as-you-progress" kinda thing...
