Been having tons of fun with my recently acquired Raspberry Pi, and a few ounces of frustration. So far I've got three distros to play with: Raspbian (based on Debian "Wheezy"), that came ready installed on an SD card; Arch Linux Arm, and SlackwareArm, which I've installed on SD myself. It's a bit particular about SD cards, the Pi. Some work, some don't. That was a source of some of the frustration. Another was because Arch has changed to systemd, which made some online info obsolete. Anyway, I managed OK in the end.

I've considered getting a pi, though the graphics being closed-source (they released an open source wrapper around a binary driver, IIRC) means I can't run my favorite OS on it...sigh.
Even so, I might get one just for toying around with. They seem like pretty cool gadgets (especially for the price).Posted 01-28-2013 at 09:47 AM by rocket357

Actually I might run NetBSD, now that you mention it. I'd prefer OpenBSD, but you can't win them all, eh?

heh funny that OpenBSD was mentioned specifically and even linked. Sigh. That link doesn't quite do it justice, though...when Broadcom "open sourced" the GPU stuff, the OpenBSD team went nuts over the fact that they'd open sourced the "api" in the form of a "wrapper" around the actual engine. (Theo's thoughts on it here, if you're interested). The more things change, the more they stay the same, right?
I really appreciate the fact that OpenBSD (well, Theo) has such a strict open source policy, but man it'd be cool to run OpenBSD on a pi.Posted 01-28-2013 at 10:56 AM by rocket357

No, there doesn't look to be much chance of getting OpenBSD ported to it.

Got wireless working. Had some problems setting it up with NetworkManager, so installed wicd and sorted it out straight away. No more yards of ethernet cable! Whoopeee!
