You are yet to get it all

There was a period of around 12 years, I used Windows-based system, even a HTC handheld with Windows installed. I thought, and perhaps think even now, that Microsoft treats you as a teenager and act like a 'big bro' which is good when your primary business is not with devices. Linux, on the other hand, gives you more credit than Windows do. The main reason of my being with Windows platform was I focused on productivity, keeping aside my self customized environment.
Nowadays I work on both Windows and Linux (
). Windows has a wider and tested range of available softwares, but then again, the more efficient ones are either highly-priced or licensed. This might not bother all, but since I work on C#, use Photoshop and write articles on a word processor (read "MS Word") in Wi-Destination, I needed Visual Studio (for best productivity), Adobe CS, and MS office (again for best productivity). All good, but not enough to be customized as per my needs. There are freewares too, but a few of them are efficient to the desired extent. However, Windows OS (I use Win7) has a cool look and self-claimed "fastest OS" poster which I hope no one can deny.
Linux, is my cup of tea lately for many reasons. Firstly, I got it free (Ubuntu) and no one suggested me weird things like "go, get a pirated version of OS, nobody will know or care!". Second, if you have a small amount of logical sense and try Linux, you'll find that you have got the right thing. Third, I have MonoDevelop, Gimp and LibreOffice which are considerably good on their functions! Fourth, there are lots of versions of Linux (called "distro"), you can choose after or before trying.
Last but not the least, you feel secured in Linux environment; there's nothing to be hacked ! Virii usually don't target Linux and I am glad for it but don't know why.
The best part of Linux is its worldwide support. If you have a question, feel free to ask the "World of Linux"; there's always a bunch of efficient Linux person happy to help you.
Many of my favourite softwares don't run on Linux; that's a foul. Some looked ugly, some have their old versions on the repositories, and almost all of them have an alternative for Linux users. All you need is some time to spend to understand them, report (or just tolerate!) bugs while understanding, and get used to them. For those having an option, I hate WINE (software, what did you think?) !
Installation of softwares were very pitiful on Linux, but modern distros have GUI- based software centers so you don't have to remember tarball commands and such kind of things now.
Those who think Windows 7 (Windows 8 has yet to show its claws) is both very fast and good-looking, can see Ubuntu 12.04, Mint or Mandriva. Speed is the first word these distros say, and if using KDE 4 and/or Unity, you must be thinking again before certifying Windows.
We can see Windows and Linux (I haven't used Mac yet) have both their pros and cons; You are yet to get it all in one platform.

Sigh. Viruses aren't the only manner in which a machine can be insecure. Trust me, I work in very large scale Enterprise linux environments...Linux gets hacked. Note, that's not "Linux *can be* hacked"...that's "Linux *does get* hacked". It is not a silver bullet for security issues.
