18 years of DEBIAN starting from version 5 "Sid" until the recent 10 "Buster".
Before that done 6 years of system administration including a SCO UNIX Server and a couple of Windows Servers and dozens of workstations. The largest system was nearly 100 PC's, devices etc. at 3 locations with LAN and VPN's, Firewall and Phone via landline and VoIP.

Have fun, and maybe share your knowledge with me.

Have to get this off my head.

Today 2022-12-20 I've spent 2 1/2 hours on installing Windows 10 and 35 minutes on Linux.

As I had this nice Fujitsu Lifebook I wanted it to run my usual flavor of Linux the Debian 11. So today I had some time to spend over lunch. It was a treat with the knowledge on how to prepare the laptop.

The 25 minutes in Windows 8 to prep the laptop, remove all locks and change the boot order in the BIOS.

Then it booted properly from the stick. Therefore today Linux installation.

The last Windows 10 install on a hardware way outperforming my Fujitsu laptop took 4 hours and an overnight Windows update.

And now since 30 minutes running Win-update with about 480 updates still to go.

Please console me a bit and post a bit about your wastes of time with computers.

Yeah, I know how you feel. I recently wasted time and money installing Windows 7 on my desktop. I didn't really need it, was just curious how it would run. Got rid of it after two days, and been kicking myself since.

what I also absolutely love about linuxes: you can just copycat your rootfs and you get a working system in just time you spent waiting the copy. and of course, once configured, forever working. i'm very lucky not to touch anything in windows for already three years, except rare cases when I boot it to play some games, which happens about once per 3-4 months. however it is fast enough to get me all annoyed.

Don't - just be happy to have a "free" and running OS.
Always nice to know about Windows - there is a lot of people out there being thankful for your knowledge. Makes for a nice dinner all once in a while with friends having some shortfalls on Windows.
And since I have Linux I have time to spend on others Windows computers
