Configuring Opera 10 with a more classic/cleaner interface

Disabling Speed Dial (allows a blank page at Start-up)

In the Opera address bar, type in about:config or opera:config.
User Prefs → Speed Dial State and set it to 3 (disabled).
Save (bottom of page).

Now can get a blank page at start-up by Preferences → General and setting Start-up to "Start with Speed Dial".

Panel at top with text instead of icons

Make the panel bar visible (F4 toggles visibility).
Menu → Appearance (F12) → Toolbars
Click on the panel (greyed out options should toggle to available)
Placement: Top
Style: text only (may need to click in panel again to enable this change)

Removing various UI components
Try right clicking → Customise → Remove from toolbar.

For the search bar, must right click in the text entry box, not the icon.

Changing Menu button to toolbar
Expand the menu button and toggle "Show menu bar".

Any particular reason why you would bother to do this when Opera 10.XX is unsupported and has known security flaws?

Thanks ruario and sorry it took so long to accept your comment. The expected email notification did not arrive.

The last routine distro upgrade changed Opera 10 to 11.01.

Re-testing the techniques using an un-customised 11.01 ...

To get to Preferences, use Menu -> Show Menu Bar (the Alt+F11 hotkey did not work for me) then Tools -> Preferences (the Ctrl+F12 hotkey did not work for me).

To get to Appearance, either Menu -> Appearance or Tools -> Appearance (the Shift+F12 hotkey did not work for me).

Removing various UI components
Similar. Was able to remove the search bar by right clicking the icon.
