I'm not having that!

Posted 04-07-2009 at 10:13 AM by uinseann

Last year my isp without my knowledge were doing a trial run for "phorm". It's basically a way to snoop on my surfing habits so they can target me with adverts that will appeal to me (nothing appeals to me, I have a brain and I decide if I want something).

Even though there is a lot of resentment to this, they are going to go ahead with it. We don't stand much chance in "Browns Britain" because that slimeball will agree with anything. The isp's doing this phorm spying are supposed to make it easy for you to opt out. I've had a quick look for the opt out form but I need to get my isp package info out because it's not as simple as it seems.

The only way I see how this phorm can work is with cookies (but I could be wrong, it could be the isp that gives them the data). My computer must have to carry a bit of code, that scans the websites I visit looking at content, thereby deciding on what to target me with, probably back at my isp homepage?

At the moment I use firefox and I always clear my private data on leaving the homepage, hoping this will stop them placing a cookie. I have heard there is a firefox add on that stops website snooping? I am not sure but I think it is "stealth something or something stealth"?

It really gets my goat this whole idea of adverts, they talk as if there's nothing wrong with the idea? I'll tell you what! Why don't they pay us for providing a service?

It's like when I went for some number plates for my car. When I gave him the registration I said "you're not going to put your shops name on them are you"? He said he was! So I said "right don't bother I'll go elsewhere or, we will talk about advertising rates".

I too, will be ensuring my ISP (Same as yours, I suspect.) don't sell my browsing habits to the highest bidder! It's disgusting that the EU have reservations regarding this snooping but .gov.uk do nothing!

I can't even imagine what the internet will look like in 10 years time? Probably self destruct!
