reading a cd

Posted 07-13-2006 at 08:09 PM by bill06812

I have successfully downloaded Simply Mepis on my old ex-98windows pc. My problem is I don't know how to read a CD. In Windows it either just started, or I just doubled clicked on it and it would get going. How do I do the same thing on LINUX. Thanks. Bill

in the latest linux OS, the cdrom is mounted automatically. but in the older linux, u will have to mount it..

type 'man mount' for more details.

put the cd in the drive, and say 'mount /mnt/cdrom', it should work. and goto /mnt/cdrom to see the contents. also type 'df' to see it u r able to see /mnt/cdrom as mounted.
