Upgrade to Natty Narwhal aka Ubuntu 11.04

Posted 06-30-2011 at 07:42 AM by bhupendra

The upgrade to Natty did go smoothly, but Unity
was broken. Had to do a fresh install. Everything
works now. There has been a lot of controversy
regarding Ubuntu's move to Unity. As far as I am concerned,
it does not make much difference whether it is Gnome 3.0 or
Unity, so long as it works. Even KDE is good. Once you get
familiarized however the desktop is organized matters less so long as it is Linux.
I like Ubuntu and will stick with it. For that matter, I also like
Mint, Fedora and Mandriva.

My upgrade did not go as well as yours, I tried to install kubuntu 11.04 and it hung when installing the video. I am going back to 10.10. I have an old built in video at 64 meg and I guess the newer kde either requires more or the driver is different. I guess I will have to invest in a video card.

I am staying with 10.04 lts for now. Can you have multiple desktop environments on the same machine with Natty? i.e. I usually have kde, gnome, and a light desktop installed. You choose which desktop environment at login time.
