Whilst moving from Linux Mint MATE 18.3 to 19.3 and preserving my Home partition (see another of my blogs), I was surprised to see this warning:

Code:
I: The initramfs will attempt to resume from /dev/sda2
I:     UUID=948396b3-f329-4b5a-9771-1464ff25eca9
I: Set the RESUME variable to override this.
The solution is to add the UUID to this file:

/etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/resume

using the following command:

Clonezilla
is a well-known disk and partition cloning/imaging program.

However, the retro look of Clonezilla with its command line interface, plus a similarity to the Windows “Blue Screen of Death” (see screenshot) puts off many people from using it.

I am a big fan of the KISS principle (Keep It Simple, Stupid) and I agree with LQ member ChuangTzu. Those new to Linux will gain confidence simply by using it and then gradually accumulating further knowledge as time goes by.

I am not suggesting that Linux Mint, featured here, is the most suitable Linux distribution (distro) for all users and for all computer hardware....

Using a Live Linux DVD (USB drive) to retrieve personal data

One way to retrieve personal data from a problematic hard drive or computer is to boot from a Live Linux DVD or USB drive.
I used Linux Mint 19.2 MATE 64-bit on a SanDisk USB drive.
