Clonezilla: A Basic Step-by-Step Guide to Cloning (Disk to Disk) & Imaging (Disk to Image)

is a well-known disk and partition cloning/imaging program.

However, the retro look of Clonezilla with its command line interface, plus a similarity to the Windows “Blue Screen of Death” (see screenshot) puts off many people from using it.
It is necessary to put this unwelcoming exterior to one side and concentrate on what this very useful and powerful piece of software can do.

I know that Clonezilla produces it own guides.

I am a big fan of the KISS principle (Keep It Simple, Stupid) and I agree with LQ member ChuangTzu. Those new to Linux will gain confidence simply by using it and then gradually accumulating further knowledge as time goes by.

I am not suggesting that Linux Mint, featured here, is the most suitable Linux distribution (distro) for all users and for all computer hardware....

DDRescue-GUI provides an alternative, simple graphical method for using ddrescue.

To install, open Terminal:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:hamishmb/myppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install ddrescue-gui
