As I searched for suitable recovery software in Linux and Windows, it merely emphasised the point about always having a backup of personal data!

Whilst responding to another LQ member’s query about a suitable distro for a family member to self-manage, I came across Peppermint OS.
The distro was to be installed on an elderly 10 year old laptop with 4GB of RAM.
The main priorities were:
1. Stability.
2. General management by GUI as far as possible.
3. Decent speed and low resource usage.
4. No systemd.

Mention, in the same breath, Arch Linux and rolling release and most Linux distro seekers will head for the hills.
Over the last 3 years EndeavourOS ( EOS for short) has sat alongside the more illustrious Linux Mint and MX Linux in the top 3 of the Distrowatch charts.
There has to be a reason for this heightened interest in a relatively new distro which only started life in July 2019, admittedly as a reincarnation of the earlier discontinued Antergos.

I have a 3 year old Brother laser printer (HL1112) which has behaved well until recently, until several marks appeared at regular 75mm intervals on every printout.
I discovered this excellent YouTube video which describes how to solve the problem:
