How to spot a real journalist.

Posted 07-11-2011 at 11:50 AM by Dubious Dave

I was starting to wonder if there are any real journalists left anymore and started to compile a list of real journalist qualities or what I think should be qualities. How far off we are these days.

Real journalists....

1) don't refer to themselves.
2) don't use absolutes.
3) don't provide their own adjectives.
4) are knowledgeable about a subject, but the reader can't tell.
5) are disliked by their subjects and their subject's peers....

KDE looks awesome!

Posted 01-18-2010 at 07:40 AM by Dubious Dave

I finally made the plunge this week and switched over to KDE4 from Gnome. I'm running Fedora 12 x64 KDE4 and it looks awesome. It's quite stable and responsive. I never really understood what I was missing in Gnome until I really tried KDE. The ability to adjust so many settings is absolutely great. My wife still runs Gnome on her machine and it looks so flat and stale. For all of you previous KDE users, go back and see it now. For all of you Gnome users, you might as well get started using...

Gaining a legislative majority

Posted 04-30-2009 at 12:12 PM by Dubious Dave

For the foreseeable future the democrat party will maintain and increase their hold on elected seats. This holds true for state and federal legislatures. Why? Simple really. The democrats have realized that winning elections is about increasing the numbers of voting people who hold similar ideals to their own. You have more people out there you get more votes. The republicans are still trying to win by shifting the positions of the people they put up for office. They are following the crowd...

Windows XP is no longer supported.

Posted 04-25-2009 at 10:35 PM by Dubious Dave

Last week I decided to give Vegastrike a try, and I didn't have a joystick. Not really that big a problem because a mouse will work, but I wanted to play it with a joystick. So I go into Best Buy and pick one up. While I'm there I see all these nice shiny new laptops and decide to check them out. The first thing any Linux fan will be hit with is the wall of Vista. Vista, Vista, Vista, everywhere Vista. I'm actually surprised that Bill Gates himself wasn't hanging out there. However I did see...

Politicians (No Linux in this)

Posted 04-22-2009 at 07:25 AM by Dubious Dave

If you expect something about Linux in this post skip this and read something else. This is a rant about politicians.

For the last 4 months I have read story after story about how bad the economy is and how corporations or banks have borked us. That may be true, but it takes two to tango and if the stupid, selfish politicians hadn't asked them to dance we wouldn't be in this mess. Look, business is about greed and making money. That's what makes it work so well. The governments...
