Having installation problems in Linux Mint - UEFI, ESP, Legacy boot?

ONE:

Most existing Windows EFI partitions are about 100MB in size.

When migrating from Windows 10 (or W11 etc) to Linux Mint, it is important to note that Calamares, the Linux Mint installer, requires a minimum of 300MB for the EFI system partition.

For dual or multiple booting it is advisable to make the EFI partition at least 500MB.

Prior to using the Linux Mint installer, I advise using GParted to create a 500MB EFI system partition...

EXTON OpSuS Tumbleweed KDE Plasma/LXQt 64 bit UEFI Linux Live System with Refracta Snapshot :: Build 250523

I've made a new version of EXTON OpSuS replacing version 250515, which had LXQt 2.2 as the only Desktop Environment. In Build 250523 I've added KDE Plasma as an alternative DE.

Konsole missing emoji fix

Posted 05-19-2025 at 09:39 AM by zapwai

I just realized emoji are controlled separately in Konsole > Profile > Appearance.

I was using DejaVu sans mono font but by default emoji didn't show up.
I tried noto color emoji font but the numbers looked doofy.
Then I realized if you pull up edit profile > appearance and click on Complex Text Layout tab, you can explicitly set how emoji are dealt with.
So I can select noto color emoji there and it's working great.

EXTON OpSuS Tumbleweed LXQt 2.2.0-1.1 64 bit UEFI Linux Live System with Refracta Snapshot - Build 250515

EXTON OpSuS Tumbleweed is based on openSUSE Tumbleweed, which is a rolling distribution. I.e. no need for new installations. Just run the command "sudo zypper dup" and you will always get the latest stable packages/kernels. The ISO file is of 3070 MB. The LXQt version will thus run very fast from a DVD or a USB stick. Even in VirtualBox/VMware directly from the ISO file.

ABOUT ArchEX 2025 Build 250507
I’ve made a new extra version of ArchEX with KDE Plasma 6.3.4-1 – latest version released 250401. "Plasma is made to stay out of the way as it helps you get things done. But under its light and intuitive surface, it’s a powerhouse. So you’re free to choose ways of usage right as you need them and when you need them". This ArchEX version uses kernel 6.14.4-arch1-2. ArchEX can very easy be installed to hard drive (if you want) with Calamares Installer...
