How to get Amarok working in Slackware 14.2

Posted Today at 05:05 AM by Ztcoracat

After a fresh installation of Slackware I wanted to hear my music and Amarok just didn't want to play nice.

After a few searches I found that you need some plugins in order for Amarok to play mp3 and mp4 files.

You will need to install gst-plugins bad, gst-plugins-ugly and gst-libav.
They are easily found in the SlackBuilds repo.

Accessing from the outside world

Posted 12-16-2017 at 03:09 PM by kingbeowulf

After some maintenance on the antique hardware and a new hard drive, I decide to upgrade to slackware-14.2. All seemed ok until I noticed (months later) that web site was no longer accessible from the outside world, as was murmur ans ssh. All worked well from inside my network. Therefore, it's not a web/murmur/ssh server configuration. The firewall script is passing though the correct ports - even turned it off for a bit and no change. Thus, its either:
  1. OpenWRT port forwarding

NEWS 171215 ABOUT RaspAnd Nougat 7.1.2 with Google Play Store (and everything else!) working
RaspAnd Nougat 7.1.2 Build 171215 has GAPPS installed and Google Play Store working. Bluetooth works and you can use TeamViewer to control other computers from your Rpi3. RaspAnd can be installed in Windows using Win32 Disk Imager or Etcher. The video performance is generally much better than in previous versions. Your Wifi connection is stable and it will reconnect after every reboot of your Rpi3....

Batch-cropping with ImageMagick + GIMP. Script helper(s), in development

Posted 12-09-2017 at 03:21 PM by the dsc (linux-related notes)
Updated 12-14-2017 at 12:01 PM by the dsc (mumbling about possible improvements)

Here's the explanation:

These are the original images to be cropped in batch, all jpegs, all in the same folder:

(It's a single image here, but these are in fact separate files)

The next step is to create a montage (still done manually):

montage -define jpeg:size=220x -geometry 220x220 *.jpg montage1.png

And then it's edited on GIMP: gimp montage1.png

Removing a PPA From Ubuntu

Posted 12-09-2017 at 03:15 PM by Ztcoracat

I have consistently gotten this message with Ubuntu and other Ubuntu based distro's....

Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored or old ones used instead
Generally the way to remove that PPA is to go to Software Sources and rm the conflicting ppa's. However I wasn't able to do that with Voyager Linux (built on Ubuntu and Xubuntu)

Instead I had to use the command line to rm that annoying cairo-dock-team/ppa/ubuntu xenial main.
