The beauty of Perl

It's been some time from my first post. I have almost finished "Learning Perl",
2nd edition from Randal Schwartz and Tom Christiansen, and I have to say I was
amazed by this language. Now, this edition is rather old (1999) because I borrowed
it from my local library, today it's in the 7th edition, but the language didn't
change very much. It is still Perl 5.

WiringPi-Perl example

This is a Raspberry Pi project I did a few months ago and meant to post somewhere. There is a Perl interface to the WiringPi module. It's available from https://github.com/WiringPi/WiringPi-Perl. Unfortunately it doesn't come with any examples, but the WiringPi module comes with some nice examples. Unfortunately they are all written in C and it can take some trial and error to translate and I never found any translations of the examples online, or any WiringPi-Perl specific examples.

Eclipse And Perl epic-ide.org

Notes from past installation. May be incomplete
Performed onb eclipse helios 3.6 and Indigo 3.7
ActiveState perl.

Add paddwalker to perl
ppm install padwalker

Download site (I think this is the epic-ide site for eclipse)
Extract locally. Capture the site folder name

Go to eclipse Help | Install New Software | Add Site, Provide local Path

You might be able to have eclipse install it directly using the following...

Fix the arrow keys in the Ubuntu Perl debugger

This is just a quick note to myself. I spend a lot of time in the perl debugger (perl -d -e 1) and CPAN (perl -MCPAN -e shell) in Ubuntu and hate the way that when I get to the perl shell my keyboard cursor keys stop doing useful things like scrolling through my history and start producing garbage like "^[[A", "^[[B" "^[[C" and "^[[D" (up arrow, down arrow, right arrow and left arrow respectively).

I have fixed this several times on other boxes,...

Thanks to LQ for giving a free blog to all subscribers! With this additional encouragement I can use this space to talk about my Linux-related ideas, experience and comments and hopefully get community feedback.

I worked as a linux admin on and off even though it's not my primary specialization. I have five computers at home, all of which has at least one linux partition. Out of those, my closet server may be of special interest because it lives in a closet and I attached it a dryer...
