Just annotations of little "how to's", so I know I can find how to do something I've already done when I need to do it again, in case I don't remember anymore, which is not unlikely. Hopefully they can be useful to others, but I can't guarantee that it will work, or that it won't even make things worse.

Apparently Opera no longer wants you to have system-style title-bar and borders, but "devil's pie" allows you to

Posted 06-10-2020 at 01:33 AM by the dsc (linux-related notes)

Genereated by gdevilspie:

Code:
; generated_rule opera-decor
( if
( begin
( contains ( window_name ) "- Opera" )
)
( begin
( decorate )
( println "match" )
)
)
I don't even really use it, I just installed recently trying to see if there was a bug with Brave and the other Chrome-based ones (I believe it was all due to the fact I forgot I had swap disabled, trying to fix some udev/systemd/package...

Opera Presto had the best GUI ever. Ever.

Posted 02-21-2016 at 10:27 PM by the dsc (linux-related notes)

I can't speak anything about the web-rendering part, which seemed at very least okay, in pair with firefox and chrome, if not somewhat better, sometimes. Even there the GUI alone could give it an edge sometimes as it had a button where you could choose to display/download no image at all, only display already cached images, or operate normally. Other browsers may even have that function, but it's hidden deeper in a less customizable GUI.

And customization was so easy and powerfull....

Chropera seems to behave a little bit better than Chrome/ium

Just pointing out just in case someone finds oneself annoyed by Chrome/ium seemingly entering in neverending loops and reading or writing who-knows-what in the HDD for too long. I have the impression that the new Opera behaves somewhat better in this regard, but I really haven't used it as much, so could be just a matter of time until it hangs just as much.

Unfortunately, however, the new GUI is still somewhat like just a crippled Chrome GUI -- scrolling the wheel over the tab-bar...

Bash conversion of Opera sessions to "netscape standard" bookmarks

Posted 06-11-2014 at 03:34 AM by the dsc (linux-related notes)

You run it on the session folder (.win files, usually on ~/.opera/sessions/), and it will generate a single html file with all the bookmarks (taken from the last visited URL for any given tab in that session, hence the file/variable "lasturl" -- the session files record some "history", but this isn't being exported/converted here), and coded "subfolders" for each session file, with the filenames as titles. Every time it runs it rewrites this generated html file....
