Can't boot arya 2016.08

I have downloaded and dd'd 2016.08 live to a usb drive. When I try to boot states Fatal: boot medium not found, sh: can't access tty; jobcontrol turned off. I have tried booting manually via grub by pointing to the root device with no luck. I have also tried booting via UEFI and legacy as well with no luck. Re-downloading the iso is not an option at the moment. Will someone help please. Thanks.

My replied are not showing up so I'll edit the post. Blkid labels the iso as Aryalive UUID 7AFF-2DAA downloaded and dd'd Thursday. Ls /dev shows console hdc scd0-scd3 sda sda1-4 sdb sdb1-4 sdc sdc1-4 sdd sdd1-4. I am limited to the tools busybox provides so no isohybrid etc. The current live usb is all I have at the moment.

Can you reply with the name of the ISO file that you downloaded and when did you download it.

Do the following to get to the root cause and post the results here:

1) Boot into the USB and in the boot options screen, edit the boot command(by entering tab at the blue boot options screen in legacy boot mode) and put busybox at the end of the linux line and boot(by pressing enter). When you see the shell prompt enter ls /dev/ and post the output here.

ls /dev shows console hdc scd0-3 sda sda1-4 sdb sdb1-4 sdc sdc1-4 sdd sdd1-4.

I downloaded the iso Thursday. The iso label is Aryalive. Aryalinux 2016.08 Dawn of Justice. Thank you.

Also try booting via some other USB port and see if that helps. Also would help if you could try burning the image onto a DVD and try. Also another thing that you might try is removing all partitions from the USB drive - using fdisk/gparted etc and creating a new partition of the full space and then formatting it with FAT32. Then doing a dd of the ISO image onto it.

Only hybrid ISO boots from USB - presuming it was written correctly. You can use isohybrid to make a hybrid image.

There are few things that don't add up. 2018.08 is actually codename Saavan. 2016.04 is Dawn of Justice. Then again your listing of /dev seems to me to be correct. Have you tried booting through other USB ports. In case you have virtualbox try booting the iso via virtualbox. Try booting it on a different computer. Just need to make sure that the iso you downloaded is not corrupt. If it doesn't work in either of the case then I'm afraid it's the iso that is corrupt.

One thing to ascertain that the iso is not corrupt is to check the md5sum of the file. Can you open a terminal and go to the directory where you've downloaded the iso and run md5sum <name of the iso file> and check if it matches with the one posted on the downloads page for the iso.

i had similar problems for other isos.. and i am sure your problem will be solved if you burn a dvd and install. hybrid iso can be used for usb if i m not mistaken. some sites like pcbsd clearly have 2 different isos [live dvd / usb]

i usually prefer dvd burning... but thats my view !

reg VM, today i installed thru QEMU on manjaro host. installation was a breeze...

the difference i noticed...
in arya, after booting into a VM, if you need to install, you have to go to gpart and create partitions for root [home, if needed seperate] and swap. install can take place only after gpart is deployed.

i also have Arch installed on a VM thru QEMU. here i used the archanywhere iso. the beauty is you dont need to predefine. the install script that is interactive keeps asking you by displaying options for swap, boot, root etc... ! plus i could choose what i wished to install !
some day, arya will have that option too !
