Check which versions of X that version of catalyst support.
A prerelease of X doesn't strike me as a good choice, but I could be wrong.

It actually wouldn't surprise me if Arch was using a pre-release of X as default. The catalyst version is most likely from the repositories too. I just have a feeling that the catalyst version may be too new for the card.
