What window manager do you use/prefer?
I have been trying Gnome and Kde.
My current is Gnome. But I know that there are alot of other good (and stable) window managers out there. What do you guys prefer/use on your Arch? |
I currently use Fluxbox but I will slowly be trying to wean myself to Openbox when I get around to it. Its just like Windows-Linux conversion :p I've used Fluxbox ever since I started linux and I can make it jump through hoops via the config files, however I have a beef with the devs and don't know enough C++ to make a fork so WM hunting I be going :/

ive been using gnome forever, I just started using fluxbox and love it.

I use openbox and really like it.

Thanks for your replies.
I have also been using Gnome for quite some time now, and I'm thinking about trying out Fluxbox and after that openbox. Is it acutally possible to just install Fluxbox on top of Gnome, or should I do a clean install? Sincerely, Jørgen |
mine depends. On my desktop I use kde but on my laptops I use e17, xfce, and fluxbox.

I use Metacity as part of Gnome. I've tried switching to KDE a few times (and it was what I used when I first started using Linux), and dabbled with using just a basic WM like Fluxbox, but I always keep coming back to Gnome.
If it ever comes close to being finished, I might give e17 another try, but it's still slightly too ragged around the edges for now. |
I use fluxbox because it's lickity quick.
It's great once it's set up just the way you like it, but can be a pain to customize it from a vanilla install. Gnome's pretty nice too. I use it on my secondary distros where I can't be bothered to configure fluxbox. |
I use fluxbox on my Arch machine. It's great. Clean, fast, and looks good. :)

xfce with rox for the desktop and filemanager nice and light, enough eye candy for me and mac type click and drag action

antiloaded,
I'm not sure about fluxbox within gnome but I know you can replace metacity wm in gnome with openbox easily. In fact, I have ran openbox inside gnome with no problems in the past. You may be able to do something similar with flux. |

Openbox all the way :)

well I did a reinstall of the basesystem and now i'm running fluxbox & blackbox. It runs smoother on a clean install, and I didn't want such a 'huge' part of the gnome repositories.

I use icewm. I also have ratpoison installed but I almost never use it anymore.
Before that I used xfce,fluxbox,windowmaker,openbox,ion3,wmii (all for more then some weeks or months)but in the end I find icewm best in features and speed. I never tried icewm before because I found it's look too much remind me of windows, but now I use the SilverXP theme which just looks like windows xp and I don't care. See this page for my desktop setup: http://users.skynet.be/six/gpure/tech/lightdesktop.html There's some screenshots on the bottom of the page grtz |
