Voidlinux question: can't boot system after upgrade

hi, pardon me for posting here on voidlinux since i couldn't find a dedicated forum

i upgraded my voidlinux system but couldn't start the system after reboot

the systems displays the following then freezes:
'Booting Void GNU/Linux

Loading Linux 5.4.25_1...
Loading initial ramdisk..'

I updated system from a previous 'xbps' < 0.54, related thread is here
#251
the system is a homebuilt pc with void installed on internal IDE drive.

the old 4.19 kernel can be boot without any issue (from Advanced menu)

any advice?

Check that you have a new initrd image for your new kernel. Most distros automatically create one with some kind of mkinitrd script when a new kernel is installed, but I don't know if Void does.

You have 6 kernels installed. Is that on purpose?

Do the docs help you
https://docs.voidlinux.org/
You can remove kernels with vkpurge the docs say.
