It might use a serial console. How do you know it doesn't boot? How did you create that VM? What kernel parameters are set in the Grub configuration?

1. It's not doing anything it's stuck

2. I downloaded an Arch Linux iso and inserted it in the vm and booted it

Welcome to LinuxQuestions.

I just downloaded an Arch ISO and could successfully boot it from a VirtualBox VM.

When you created the VM did you specify linux and Arch Linux (64 bit) for type and version?

I used Arch Linux 64 Bit with the iso archlinux-2020.08.01-x86_64.iso from this mirror http://archlinux.uk.mirror.allworldi...so/2020.08.01/ for UK Arch Linux Users

Note: I do live in the UK

I am running VB 6.1.12 and the same ISO file i.e archlinux-2020.08.01-x86_64.iso

How did you create the virtual machine?

Did you verify the download was good by comparing its md5sums?

I used VitrualBox to create the vm.

With these settings:

1GB Memory
8GB Hard Disk Space
1 CPU
I/O APIC Enabled
EFI Not Enabled
Hardware Clock in UTC Time Enabled
ICH9 Chipset
USB Tablet Pointing Device
16MB Video Memory

And with this boot order:

Hard Disk
Optical
Floppy

I also did not verify the download was good by comparing its md5sums.

I'd do that.

You could also try netboot instead.

With VM version set to Arch Linux (64 bit) the defaults are:

System:
chipset PIIX3
Pointing Device: USB tablet
I/O APIC Enabled
Hardware Clock in UTC Time Enabled

I am using 1024 for base memory.

Display:
16 MB video memory
Graphics controller VMSVGA

Change chipset did not work.

I don't know how to verify the download if it's good by comparing it's md5sums.
