Problem with iptables and ufw configuration on unable to initialize table 'filter'

I am trying to configure iptables for use with ufw on Archlinux however I keep getting the error that the table 'filter' cannot be initialized and that I should try upgrading iptables or using insmod. So I tried upgrading iptables, and that made no difference. Then I saw on some forums that I should run modprobe for iptables, ipconntrack, iptable_filter and ipt_state but they didn't show up in lsmod afterwards. I am not very familiar with iptables, and I would really appreciate the advice.

filter should be listed in /proc/net/ip_tables_names, if it is not here, kernel does not support it

Yeah I looked in that folder and there is no file by that name at all, that sounds like a problem?

yes, the kernel does not support IPv4 iptables, what about available modules?
Code:
find /lib/modules/`uname -r`/kernel/net -name '*_tables*'

I tried that command and it didn't find any files. I am using the stock kernel for Arch, I thought they were all built with support for iptables?
