Partitioning before Installing
Now....I want to try this linux distro because I hear that it is good :) So I wanted to ask how to mae the partitions under Windows... Can I use Partition Magic ? And I am asking because my information under my win is very worthy and I don't want to lose it if I try to install it.I have experience with Slackware. But by Slack when I started installing it automatic told me that there is Windows. Is by Arch so ?
thanks |
I don't know really...
but it found installing arch easier than slack :D arch is great, try it remember nothing beats a BSD :D Geert. |
I'm pretty sure Arch will not help you much with setting up dual boot. It can be done, naturally, it's just you'll have to do it yourself.
First, use Partition Magic only to shrink Windows partition. Then make Linux partitions with Linux tools, during the installation. During installation of Arch, be sure not to select the automatic option, since it will erase your whole drive. You'll need to go into the manual mode, and make partions in that empty space you've made in Partition Magic. Finally, you'll need to configure the bootloader, GRUB or LILO, to recognise both operating systems... ... and that's why I don't double boot :) |
before you do anything to your harddrive BACKUP whatever is important to you!!! Partition magic is pretty good but things can go haywire. So BACKUP!!!
