pacman not working correctly!

Hey guys,

I just made the venture into Arch Linux, but I am having an issue getting all my packages from Pacman. I installed the base packages and LILO booted fine, but after I load my network card modules and dhcpcd eth0, I can ping www.google.com or something like that, but pacman refuses to work!

I ran 'pacman --refresh' and then did 'pacman -S enlightenment' and it told me to refresh it again.

It says that it can't load/read the [extra] section, and tells me to do the --refresh command. Doesn't seem to work, however. I am not very skilled in vim so I couldn't figure out how to save my work in vim after trying to comment out the entire [extra] block. I would use nano but I need to get it through pacman and that doesn't work!

Any help to get pacman working for me is greatly appreciated! Thanks!!

A read of 'man pacman' would help you. The command to update the local package information is:

pacman -Sy
or
pacman --sync --refresh

To upgarde/get a package, pacman -S <pkgname> is right.
Also useful is the following command that will refresh the local package info and upgrade all install packages..

Pacman -Syu
